Over a dozen Land Before Time movies have been made, but the very first one is the one we'll treasure the most.

The Land Before Time is a masterpiece of drama, emotion and suspense. And it would almost certainly make my personal top five animated films ever made. It doesn't hold back anything, it shows all of the best and worst aspects of youthful friendship. Don Bluth's philosophy that you can put children through anything as long as you give them a happy ending is put to the test and then some with this movie. Bluth decided to one up the death of Bambi's mother by giving us the death of Littlefoot's mother. On screen, drawn out to the last breath, Littlefoot there begging her to get up, and it's absolutely agonizing!(not even Mufasa's death scene affects me as much as Littlefoot's mother does) The setting of the film is a bleak, washed out, dying world, no happy primary colors here. The ending feels so well deserved after everything the main characters had to go through and endure. And that song, I tear up just thinking about "If We Hold On Together". Song by the always great Diana Ross. They don't make animated movies this raw anymore.

Never saw it, though I recall seeing the direct to DVD sequels when I was 3-4 years old.

It's absolutely ridiculous the number of sequels the Land Before Time has. What number are the on currently? Fourteen or fifteen?

One of my biggest childhood memories. The first one is a masterpiece, I liked the sequels too when I was younger but now I can't stand them.

Hopefully the last movie will have the last scene go like this:

"...and so, my son, that was the tale of our ancestor's journey to the valley, long ago."

"Wow, that's a neat story, dad!"

"Yup."

"Dad?"

"Yeah?"

"What's that?"

"You mean that thing up in the sky that looks like an asteroid about to crash into the Yucatán Peninsula and about to wipe out 90% of all life on earth?"

"Yeah."

"I have no ide--"

That sounds hilarious! We'd have no more of those unnecessary sequels. If only the same happened to the Ice Age cast.

That would be a hilarious end to the series. I know they wouldn't do that, but it'd make an interesting parody video.

I agree. 20 years from now, we'll still be getting Land Before time sequels, even though we have enough.
