The only Gene Deitch short that worked for me was The Tom and Jerry Cartoon Kit.

I agree. It was a funny satire on the Tom and Jerry formulas and had actually good gags. The only other decent one would be Carmen Get it, if only for the classical music score.

I have to admit, the one where Jerry acts as a ghost to scare Tom was good. It's called Buddies Thicker Than Water.

I liked that one too! It showed Tom's nicer side and had a few gags that worked. I remember seeing it on Boomerang, and being surprised by how good it was for a Gene Ditch short.

Interesting that they had to draw Jerry 5 times larger than he usually is in order to properly interact with Gene Kelly.

Besides that, that's the most I've heard Jerry talk!

Actually, it's the second most. Jerry also was the narrator for Blue Cat Blues, the short where Tom and Jerry commit suicide.

I didn't know about that short. I was just pointing out it's the most I've heard him talk.

Lucky you. It's probably the most depressing Tom and Jerry short ever made. I'm shocked that it was an actual cartoon, and not just some Creepypasta.

You know the music from Mouse in Manhattan? Here's an Asian rendition.

There's another cartoon called The Lonesome Mouse where the duo speak very frequently.

You may know the song "Is you Is, or Is You Ain't my Baby" from Tom and Jerry, but Bing Crosby did his cover of it as well.

If you'll watch The Zoot Cat, you'll notice that Tom and Jerry do a bit of talking in that one, too.

Strangely enough, Tom spoke with a French and American accent in this one.

He also spoke at the end of "Million Doller Cat" after he finally caves in to his desire to harm Jerry. "Gee, I'm throwing away a million bucks. But I'm happy!"
