In an effort to try and attract more people to this forum, I've decided to start advertising the forum on various websites, so far just webcomics. I'm using Project Wonderful, which I like because it bases its prices on bids, so the more people who want to advertise somewhere, the higher the price per day. Right now, since I have very little advertising budget, I'm going for the free places. Not as many people will see the ads, but it's still a lot better exposure than we had before, so as far as I'm concerned free is good.

So far the only place I have an ad up is at http://www.bigsandygilmore.com/, but other places may soon follow if they approve the ads. Many thanks to C.H. for creating the ads that I'm using and resizing them as needed.

I hope to get some bigger ads in the future, but as of now I'm not entirely sure what to put in them. I'd like to use the Tiny Toon characters in the ads, but that might be crossing a copyright line, and I don't want to get in trouble with the ad company, so I'll have to look into that.

Well, I've done a few more free ads here and there, but they don't last long so I tried something different. I wanted to see how a paid ad would work, and we now have an ad up on the Girl Genuis website. :) http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php So far, it's not bad. It's not costing quite as much as I'd thought it would, and there have been a few clicks. If this proves sucessful, we may have to try a funding drive to help pay for advertising.

Did you try asking people from TTA mailing list? I find their system rather troublesome.

Yes, they were some of the first people I told about this place. Some of them signed up, and a few of them posted, but then they haven't really visited very often, if at all. J.A.M. is one of the exceptions because he still stops by. (Thanks J.A.M.!) Others said they prefered the system they had, which I found amazing, because I agree with you, that I find their system difficult to use. Mailing lists are so 90's. ;)

I find this PHPBB forum much easier to use than a mailing list because it's so much easier to see what's been said, and to respond to it, which is the whole reason I created it. But I think, and this is just my guess, that some of the people from the list feel kind of loyal to it, which makes them hesitent to switch. Also, I'm a newbie to the Tiny Toons fandom. If this board had been set up by one of them, then more of them might have joined. But because they don't really know me, they may not be sure they should trust me.

I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing, and we'll keep pulling in more people here and there, and eventually the people from the list might decide it's interesting enough to be a part of. It's still pretty small right now, so it's understandable if a lot of people might not think it's worth joining. Hopefully that will change. I might also try sending them a small reminder about this place once or twice a year, but not too often, because I don't want to look like I'm spamming.

I'm still advertising the forum, by the way. The ad I bought on Girl Genius cost me $5.42, got (theoretically) 627,100 unique views of the ad, and had 207 unique clicks. I say theoretically, because that's just how many people viewed the Girl Genius page. Most of them probably didn't even see the ad, since they're only interested in the comic. The ad cost about 70 cents a day, though, because Girl Genius is so popular, so it didn't last long, but I think 207 visits is pretty good. I might have to try that again sometime. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that any of them joined, but there's still the possibility that a few may be lurking, so we'll just have to give them time.

Right now I'm only advertising on small things that are mostly free, because I don't have much to spend, so not as many views, not as many hits, but the percentage of hits is still about the same. I just need to find more places to advertise.

Odd, I thought I've seen your name several years ago on Kevin's list...

YOUR name, Framwinkle. I know you've been with CDRR for a while, I just thought I saw your name on Kevin's list for just as long, too.

Okay, now tell me who Kevin is, because I can't think of anyone I know by that name. (I'm really bad with names.)

I joined the Acorn Cafe in February of 1998. I only joined the Tiny Toons mailing list in November of 2008, and then started this forum in approximately June of 2009. Maybe you're thinking of the Kevin and Kell mailing list? I was a part of that for a while back in the summer of 2006.

Kevin Mickel, of the Tiny Toons Adventure list?

Or was that another Framwinkle?

Probably not another Framwinkle. ;) But like I said, I'm new to the Tiny Toons online fandom. I don't think I've joined the list before, but maybe I'm wrong and I just forgot? It's possible. Sorry I didn't know who Kevin was. I am really terrible with names, and I still don't know many from the TT fandom very well.

I was just thinking. What if you added a chat room on the site? That might draw some more attention.

How would I go about doing that? I'm pretty sure ProPHPBB.com doesn't offer such a thing for their forums, or I'd have it already. I could link to a seperate chat room, but it would be seperate from the board, so I don't know how much it would get used. I can try that if you think it would be a good idea, but you may have to help me find a good chat room.

I didn't know that ProPHPBB doesn't offer chat rooms.

I'm not big on chat rooms myself, but if you can find a good host for one then I could still set one up and then link to it on the forum. It wouldn't be integrated with the forum, but it could still act as the official Acme Acres chat room.
