Babs reluctantly opens the doorknob of her closet, feeling nervous about the mystery in it. Once the door is all the way open, she can't believe what she sees as her jaw drops: Tenderheart Bear! Her favorite childhood toy and Care Bear, sitting on top of a shelf! And what shocks her is that he's alive!
Tenderheart Bear: Hi, Babs!
But Babs doesn't answer. Instead, her jaw drops all the way to the ground and she faints. Tenderheart sighs and rolls his eyes. He didn't make a good impression. The shock was too much for Babs.
Several moments later, we see the dreary pink bunny resting in bed, finally making a recovery, with a hot water bottle on her head. Tenderheart is right by her bedside, holding a glass of carrot juice. Just like a caring friend.
Babs: (Moaning.) Tenderheart...
She speaks softly.
Tenderheart: That's right, Babs. I'm right here with you.
He says as he pets her on the hand.
Babs: How long was I out?
Tenderheart: Only for a little while. I got you a hot water bottle and some carrot juice. Have some.
Tenderheart gives her the glass and she drinks from it.
Babs: This is very good.
Tenderheart: I'm glad you like it.
Babs: But there's something I don't get:
Tenderheart: What's that?
Babs: How are you alive? I've always known you as a regular teddy bear.
Tenderheart: I'll explain later. Right now, I want to talk about you.
Babs: About what?
Tenderheart: About your problems and sadness.
He sits on her bed by her feet.
Tenderheart: Babs, when you were really little, you used to always come to me when you were feeling bad about something.
Babs: That's right.
Tenderheart: And you can still tell me your problems today.
Babs: (Sighs.) This is gonna be like going to a shrink.
Tenderheart: Yes, except I won't charge you anything. Now, what's bugging you?
Babs: Come sit by me and I'll tell you.
We see a short montage of Babs spilling her guts to her old Care Bear buddy, Tenderheart. The song "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen" can be heard. It's more of a modern rendition. We can't hear what Babs and her bear are saying during the montage, but we can see their mouths move. Tenderheart nods his fuzzy head in an understanding tone. We can also see Babs crying while pouring her heart out to him. He pets her hand again to comfort her. There's now laughter. Finally, the montage is over, and Babs starts cheering up.
Tenderheart: How do you feel, Babs?
Babs: I feel great! I feel like I can face the world again!
Tenderheart: I'm glad to hear that.
Babs sees that the time is 6:55PM on her alarm clock. It was time for something important to her.
Babs: Uh-oh. I gotta get outta here!
Tenderheart: Why? What's the matter?
Babs: I'm doing a comedy routine at the club tonight, and I don't wanna be late!
Tenderheart: You'll make it.
Babs: Come outside with me.
They're now outside Babs' burrow home, and Babs thanks Tenderheart for her help.
Babs: Thanks for all your help, Tenderheart. You're as great a friend now, as you were then.
She says as she picks him up and hugs him.
Tenderheart: So are you, Babs.
She puts him down and the heart symbol on his stomach glows.
Tenderheart: Remember that you'll always be in my heart, and I know I'll always be in yours.
Babs: Of course! But...I'm still wondering...
Tenderheart: Oh, THAT.
His symbol stops glowing and he gets back to Babs' earlier question.
Tenderheart: I was ALWAYS alive, only you weren't ready to see that. You were scared too easily. Remember how you hated horror flicks?
Babs: Still do.
Tenderheart: Besides, this is a cartoon. Anything goes. A stuffed toy coming to life is nothing new. Look at Baloney the Dinosaur.
Babs makes a grossed out look.
Babs: Ugh, what a freak! But I get your point. Why don't you come to the club with me?
Tenderheart: I'd love to, but Funshine Bear is throwing a party in Care-a-Lot.
Babs: What's the occasion?
Tenderheart: You know Funshine. He's always ready for a party.
She looks at the time on her watch.
Babs: Uh-oh. I gotta run. Bye, Tenderheart! And thanks again for everything!
She says as she waves goodbye to him. He returns the wave. Babs is now off to make people laugh. Something she does best.
Tenderheart: Goodbye, Babs! And good luck! No Gilbert Gottfried or Michael Richard jokes, okay?! (To the camera.) Remember kids: Nobody cares like a bear.
He winks happily and the cartoon circle fades out in his face, thus ending our story.
